Soso Nursing Station will soon be converted into a health centre to cater for the district of Naceva in Kadavu.
This was revealed by Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete yesterday on the second day of his four-day tour around Kadavu.
Even though the nursing station looks after 1000 to 2000 villagers in Baba Ceva, one of the issues that villagers face is its geographical location.
The process of converting the nursing station to a health center will begin once a nurse practitioner is transferred from Vunisea Hospital next month.
“This will ease the need for mid level practitioner needs in Baba Ceva because with the nurse even though she is doing a wonderful job, there’s limits in her scope of practice. So having a nurse practi- tioner we’ll be able to meet those needs,” Dr Waqainabete said.
“Moving forward we will look at other nursing stations where we can look towards putting nurse practitioners just like we did in the Central Division in Dawasamu, Namara, Galoa, and the Raviravi nursing station in Beqa.”
Villagers from Nakasaleka will also be able to easily access the newly converted health centre in Soso Village with the development of a new road linking Nakasaleka to Naceva.
Turaga Na Tui Naceva, Ratu Jona Nawakalukalu, thanked the Government through the Ministry of Health for heeding their plea to have two nurses based at the Soso Nursing Station.
“There is a shortage of nurses here and the manpower is big, that’s why we wanted to have the major centres based here in Soso,” Ratu Jona said.
“If we are sick and a woman is due to give birth we will have to transport her to Vunisea and it’s a 30 minutes travel from here by fiberglass boat costing $150 return.”
