Penioni Kuinikoro, 12, says he stands ready to take on his new role as a head boy of Ahmadiyya Muslim Primary School. This is despite him being a Year Seven student of the Lautoka-based school.
The Namata Tailevu native, who has maternal links to Galoa, Kadavu, was badged on Thursday alongside the school’s head girl Makereta Turagasila during the school’s prefects induction ceremony.
The duo would be tasked with help the school administration in overseeing the school roll of 399 students.
“I feel overwhelmed and proud and I know that everything I have been doing has been worth it and being a Year Seven student, but still being chosen to be the head boy of the school, I know that teachers see good qualities in me,” he said.
“I plan just to do my best to make sure not to get arrogant with what I have and try to be humble and I plan to keep discipline in the school and to maintain its reputation, but I’d like to dedicate my achievement to my parents for supporting me and encouraging me.”
Head girl Makereta Turagasila of Emuri, Nadroga said she was humbled by her achievement and dedicated it to her parents and sister.
“I was surprised when they called my name to be the head girl, I’m going to try and set a good example to the students, help the teachers and take the school to a higher standard,” she said.
While officiating as chief guest the Divisional Police Commander West Senior Superintendent of Police Tomasi Bulimaibau urged students to enjoy their childhood.
“Being an adult is not easy, it’s hard work and even harder when you don’t use the opportunity to educate yourself now so that you can have a successful and prosperous future,” he said
