An air of uncertainty surrounds the future of inter-island vessel MV Sinu-i-wasa on servicing the Kadavu route.
Speaking from Vunisea yesterday, a major kava supplier, who wished to remain anonymous told Shipping News that they were told that the MV Sinu-i-wasa was going to stop its weekly service to Kadavu.
“I moved all my kava supplies to the Lomaiviti Princess and MV Uluinabukelevu but we got a shock that the continued on with its service,” he said.
One of the vessel’s senior crew member alleged that they have been told of the changes but nothing has been confirmed as yet.
The MV Sinu-i-wasa belongs to Venu Shipping Limited and its owner Ben Naidu was not available to comment on the matter.
When contacted the Venu Shipping office confirmed that are going ahead with their scheduled weekly trip to Kadavu and are also taking bookings for next week’s trip as well.
There were speculations that the MV Sinu-i-wasa will replace the MV Suilven to service the Suva-Levuka route as of the company’s contract with PAFCO.
The MV Suilven sank at the Suva Harbour late last year while the other vessel MV Sinu-i-wasa Tolu is encountering engine problems.
