Hard Work And Dedication Pays Off For Fiji’s Youngest Rugby World Cup Squad Member

Fiji Airways Flying Fijians youngest player Veremalua Vugakoto never dreamt of donning the white jumper earlier then he expected.

The 21-year old from Daviqele, Nabukelevu,  Kadavu believes now that he’s been selected he will need to work hard and win a spot in the test lineup at the Rugby World Cup.

“It’s been a dream come true being chosen to be in the RWC squad, I think there’s a lot of work to be done building up to the game against Tonga and the RWC.

“Being the youngest I never dreamt to be in the squad this fast, but its hard work and to be part of the RWC squad. I’ve to keep working hard,” Vugakoto said.

“There are three hookers so competition for test spots is tough.”

Ratuva to improve fitness

The lanky Yadua, Nadroga lock forward Tevita Ratuva believes fitness is a major area he will need to improve on.

“We have three experienced locks in the squad and I will have to improve my fitness and basic skills,” Ratuva said.

Lomani rates Matawalu

Nukubalavu, Savusavu, native and halfback Frank Lomani says: “This is another step forward for us local players, we are now fighting to be in the starting lineup.

“So far Nikola Matawalu is the best No. 9. I learn a lot from him and always seek advice from him.

“It’s tough for me as a local player against experienced players.

“Four years ago I was in the village still schooling and I never dreamt of participating in this RWC. I only watched the Flying Fijians on television but to be here today is an achievement,” Lomani said

Set piece work for Tawake

Prop Kalivati Tawake focuses on improving is set-piece work.

“I want to thank God for his guidance.

“I’m focusing on my set pieces, scrum and line-outs and give my best during training.”
