The National Disaster Management Office would like to advise the villagers close to Mount Washington (Delai Nabukelevu) on the Island of Kadavu to refrain from diving on their fishing grounds or avoid movement along Mount Washington.

The NDMO has received reports that there have been some explosion activity underwater.

Villagers including Nabukelevu I Ra, Lomati, Talaulia and the nearby villagers are advised to exercise caution.

The NDMO is advising that people should stay away from all landslides that have occurred in the last few days including within the Mt Washington vicinity.

Continuous tremors or future eruption may make these areas more hazardous.

The public is advised to remain on alert and ensure that any slight damage to their houses etc should be monitored. These may present high risk if any future movement occurs.

It is critical for divers to avoid going out to sea during this time while assessments are still being undertaken.

The public is also advised to remain on alert and ensure that any slight damage to houses and property should be monitored. These may present high risk if any future movement occurs.

In case of landslides, the public is advised to first contact the Mineral Resources Department on 338 1611 or the NDMO on 3319 250 before any steps are taken to clear the slip.
