The year 2024 is going to be a memorable year for the Koroi family after their oldest son, Tevita Tucaketale Koroi scooped the 2024 Queen Victoria School Dux award on Friday.
For the 18-yea r -old student, the award was a way of expressing his gratitude to his parents who have dedicated their time nurturing him and ensuring he succeeds.
“Mom and dad are my inspiration, they’ve been sacrificing for me a lot and the reason why I’m working so hard; they work so hard for my siblings and me,” Mr Koroi said.
“I’ve been looking forward to this day; I thank the Lord for this achievement as I had been fasting for this every day and it has finally paid off.”
The Raviravi, Matuku Lau lad who shares maternal links to Nakasaleka, Kadavu is the oldest of six siblings and spent his first three years of his high school at Natabua High School in Lautoka.
Mr Koroi said although there were many obstacles experienced along the way during his one year at QVS, he was grateful that he was able to achieve all of this.
His mother, Ravi Drodro Koroi, not being able to withhold her tears thanked God for the path chosen for his son.
“We are a family that moves together, so having our son come to QVS was a bit challenging for us especially for me, but we thank God that through putting him here, he has achieved things we never thought he’d achieve,” Ms Koroi said.
“We had so many achievements, all of which we never dreamt of having but overall, we just want to thank God for this moment and glory and honour goes to Him alone.”
Balancing schoolwork, extra-curricular activities and hostel life, Mr Koroi hopes that students out there will understand that time management, setting priorities wisely and serving this God right are the key ingredients to achieving success.
