A 48-year-old farmer of Kadavu has been sentenced to 13 years imprisonment by the High Court in Suva for unlawful cultivation of 438 plants of illicit drugs in his farm.
Joji Voravora pleaded guilty to the offence.
The offence came to light after a Police team raided two farms that belonged to Voravora on January 16, last year.
Justice Salesi Temo highlighted the aggravating factor, stating the amount of the illicit drugs was huge, weighing 33.7 kilograms.
Voravora, a first offender, was remanded for more than a year since the raid.
Justice Temo ordered that the drugs be destroyed.
The farmer will serve a non-parole period of 11 years in jail.
