Constable Laisa Naiqato Cokanakadavu, was one of the youngest of the 223 new Police officers that graduated from the Police Academy in Nasova, Suva, last week. 109 males, 104 females, and 10 officers from Tuvalu were part of the pass out parade.
The 19-year-old from Galoa, Tavuki, Kadavu with maternal links to Naroi, Moala in Lau who completed the four months intensive training, said it was no easy sailing.
“While it was tough and gruesome, I remained focused because I was determined to accomplish my dream,” Ms Cokanadavu said.
Her family was her beacon of hope; they stood by her encouraging her not to give up.”
Constable Cokanakadavu said leaving home wasn’t a hard hurdle she had to endure with a focussed mindset taking the steps was crucial.
“The decision to leave my parents was a difficult one but they both encouraged me to take the step of faith,” Constable Cokanakadavu said.
“I told myself although I was the youngest, teachings from home was my strength.”
The former Adi Cakobau School scholar, while at high school wanted to involve herself in a profession that helps young girls make the right choices in life.
“I learnt the importance of discipline and time management.
“Over the four months of training I made many new friends; it was good to be with those who we shared the same interest.
