Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) operations manager and tournament director Jikoibau Matawalu has confirmed that the two spots for the Marama Championship next season are still open for Tailevu, Cakaudrove and Kadavu women sides.
“There are scenarios like for the Tailevu team, they need to win their match with the hope that Cakaudrove loses to Kadavu,” Matawalu said.
“In that scenario, Tailevu and Kadavu will progress to the Marama Championship.”
Matawalu said Cakaudrove can qualify if they defeat Kadavu with a bonus win with Tailevu performing likewise against Navosa.
“The points difference must be a hundred plus then they’ll (Tailevu) be able to actually progress with Cakaudrove so it’s still open,” he said.
“Kadavu needs to win or even a draw will qualify them for one spot. If Kadavu wins, then Tailevu just has to win by bonus to be the second team.”
Matawalu said the two spots for the Marama Championship are still open and the odds are even for all three teams.
“Kadavu still has to fight for their spot despite their two wins,” he said.
“Tailevu and Cakaudrove need to secure their second win(s) this weekend, if that’s the case then it all comes down to points difference as that will determine the two that will qualify.”
Matawalu said fans can expect thrilling games of women’s rugby this weekend.
“This is the last opportunity for fans; especially those who are following Kadavu, Cakaudrove and Tailevu in their Marama Championship promotion campaign,” he said.
“We want these fans to give their best support and boost the teams’ performance to secure their spot in the Marama Championship next season.”
Matawalu said the last promotion relegation match for Tailevu, Cakaudrove and Kadavu can be considered a final match.
